Odisha Horticulture- National level winner under NHM:
Horticultural activities starting from planting material production to post harvest management including plantation programme of various horticultural crops have gained momentum in the state of Odisha due to implementation of National Horticultural Mission since 2005-06.Directorate of Horticulture has come across the following milestones which have contributed a lot to prove the state like Odisha recognized as one of the best performing states under National Horticulture Mission.

Directorate of Horticulture has come across the following milestones which have contributed a lot to prove the state like Odisha recognized as one of the best performing states under National Horticulture Mission.
To increase planting material potential of the state around 35 model nurseries & 13 small nurseries have been established in public sector and 7 model nurseries & 89 small nurseries under private sector.
New gardens have been established covering an area of one lakh ha. for Mango ,28500 ha. Cashew,1130 ha. Aonla, 890 ha. Litchi, 847 ha. Orange, 1224 ha. K.lime and about 7500 ha. of banana.
Under floriculture around 11000 ha. area is under cultivation of different commercial flowers like Rose, Gladioli, Tuberose & Marigold etc.
Ginger & Turmeric cultivation has been popularized in around 7500ha.
Under protected cultivation along with other components, 26300 nos of shade net houses have been established.
To promote organic farming 3500 vermi compost units are in operation in farmer’s field.
For exposure visit 13150 no. of farmers have been rendered training inside the state, 3553 farmer have given training outside the state and 1600 farmers have undergone training within the district.
To showcase Horticultural activities in the state 4 State level shows and 50 district level shows have been organized.
Being selected as best performing state under NHM, the prize along with the certificate of recognition was received by Sri Rangalal Jamuda, Principal Secretary Agriculture and Sri S.K.Chadha, Director of Horticulture from Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture Sri Sharad Pawar.
